Curtains looking a bit lackluster and dusty?
We often take curtains for granted in our living spaces but when they’re looking really clean and fresh they can make a huge difference to a room. Ideally curtains should be cleaned around twice a year. Check whether yours can be machine washed. If not you will need to have them professionally dry-cleaned which can be expensive depending on the amount of fabric. Some dry cleaners charge by weight, others by the meter, so if you have very heavy or long curtains you may find dry cleaning is quite an expensive option (though obviously not as expensive as replacing your curtains!)
If your curtains are machine washable carefully follow the instructions and try to dry them outside where the can be hung straight and really well aired.
Leave a bit of moisture in them for ironing as you’ll get better results on slightly damp curtains.
Remember to loosen the gathers if your curtains are pleated at the top before you wash them as huge amounts of dust can accumulate in the gathers.
It’s also worth checking your curtains for stains and other signs of wear such as mildew, which can accumulate on curtains which sit on a damp window sill or patio door.
